Hello!
I’m currently the Data Visualization & Information Designer Consultant at University Libraries at Virginia Tech. I have extensive experience working in all aspects of design in academia, for private companies, and the Federal government. I hold a BA in Graphic Design and Art History, and a Masters in Fine Arts with an emphasis in Interactive, Graphic, Information Design and Data Visualization, all from Indiana University-Bloomington.
While at Indiana University, I taught classes in graphic an interactive design and typography, and worked as the Senior Graphic and Interaction Designer at the Cyberinfrastructure for Network Science (CNS) Center (https://cns.iu.edu), where I specialized in creating many dynamic and static visualizations of data and information for researchers and the world-traveling Places & Spaces: Mapping Science data visualization and art exhibit.
I have extensive experience working in all aspects of design in academia, for private companies, and the Federal Government. Before coming to Virginia Tech in the Fall of 2016, I was the Design Lead for a team of developers at the NIEHS' National Toxicology Program (NTP) in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. I have worked with other Federal agencies including NASA, NAVSEA/Crane Naval Warfare Center, and the National Parks Service - creating a variety of work spanning the visualization of data, to graphic and interactive design projects.
At Virginia Tech, I put all of my ever-expanding expertise to use by supporting administrators, faculty, students, and the general public with their data and information visualization and design wants and needs. I help define and refine requirements for projects, perform user research, specialize in user interface/experience design, infographic design, and advocate for bringing more aspects of Design Thinking into projects by integrating the facets of the arts and design into the sciences - STEM to STEAM!
Simply put…
I do a lot of visual stuff, and research that’s not so visible. I transform abstract data, information, and concepts, and make whatever I work on visible, meaningful, insightful...and pretty!

I designed these in conjunction with NASA, The Center for Knowledge Diffusion, and Resources for the Future (Washington D.C.).
